The Period Patch is an air-activated heat patch. It gets warm on its own and stays warm for up to six hours. Please read this before your first one.
How to use it
- Open the sachet. The patch starts warming as soon as it meets the air.
- Peel the backing and apply the adhesive side to clean, dry, unbroken skin on your lower abdomen or lower back.
- Always apply it over a layer of clothing if your skin is sensitive, and never directly under tight waistbands that press it into one spot.
- Wear for up to 6 hours. Remove it slowly, peeling back on itself.
- Dispose of the used patch with household waste. Do not flush it.
Important safety information
Sustained low-level heat against skin can cause a low-temperature burn even when it never feels too hot. This is the main risk with any heat patch, and it is easy to avoid.
- Do not sleep in it. Prolonged pressure on a warm patch while you are asleep is the most common way people get burns from heat products.
- Do not use with another heat source — hot water bottles, electric blankets, heat pads or heat rubs.
- Do not apply to broken, irritated, sunburnt or recently shaved skin, or over a rash, scar or wound.
- Check your skin regularly while wearing it. If it feels too hot, stings or itches, take it off.
- Do not use more than one patch at a time on the same area.
- Keep sachets, used and unused, away from children and pets. The contents are not for eating.
- Discontinue use and seek medical advice if you get skin redness that doesn't fade, blistering, or pain.
Please speak to a doctor first if you
- are pregnant, think you might be, or are breastfeeding — mugwort and dong quai are traditionally avoided in pregnancy, and we do not recommend using this product without medical advice
- have diabetes, poor circulation, or any condition that reduces sensation in your skin
- have a known allergy to any of the botanicals listed, or to adhesives
- are taking anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication
- have an existing skin condition affecting the area
- are using it on someone who cannot tell you they are uncomfortable
Not suitable for children.
What's in it
Heat layer: an air-activated blend of iron powder, vermiculite and salt.
Herb layer: dong quai (Angelica sinensis), mugwort (Artemisia argyi), peony root (Paeonia lactiflora) and saffron (Crocus sativus).
Outer and adhesive layers: printed non-woven fabric with a skin-contact adhesive.
What this product is not
The Period Patch is a warming comfort product. It is not a medicine or a medical device, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. The botanicals in it are included for their long history in traditional practice, not as a treatment.
Period pain that is severe, getting worse, or new to you is worth taking to a doctor. Heat is a comfort, not an answer, and conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis and fibroids are commonly missed for years. Please do not let a warm patch stand in for a diagnosis.
Storage
Store sachets sealed, in a cool dry place, out of direct sunlight. Once a sachet is opened the patch begins to warm and cannot be saved for later.
